At the end of the day, clean after your pet and clean them well with eco-friendly products. After all, they too will suffer the brunt of nature's wrath as a consequence of our environmental indifference.

Till now I did not know that cat litter is not biodegradable. After reading I came to know how the pet waste products can affect the environment. Thanks for posting.

My Mom and Dad buy me, and the rest of the gang, a delicious holistic/organic dry dog called *NOW*. I hear this food is made by people in British Columbia that started the holistic movement for us furry kids. Dad complains about the price - about $70 a larger bag - but Mom says that you can't put a price tag on our health. Mom is the best!!! (except when she yells at me for trying to get the neighbours off my lawn!?!?) We especially like it when Dad mixes our dry food with *WELLNESS* holistic line of canned food (approx. $3.79 a can).

On the cheaper side... Dad buys our biodegradeable poopie bags at Dollarama, and its a good thing too... between the three of us, Dad goes through many!

Just wanted to share a bit from the article I mentioned above by Keith, which addresses the not so technical elements of the environmental impact of pets too--I thought this was a neat train of thought:

..."the noise brought your dog into the kitchen, looking for a walk and his breakfast...
While you were driving the few miles to the dog park, you hit the drive-through espresso place, your engine idling while you waited your turn...You called your dog, hoping he'd pooped while you were otherwise distracted, threw your empty coffee cup into the trash can, and headed back home. You didn't stop at the bank or post office because it was too warm to leave the dog in the car, so you'd have to make a second trip later that day..."

Of course not all of us walk dogs like this, but I am sure there are other events of similar nature that occur! Just food for thought.
