About TGR
What is The Green Rocket?
The Green Rocket is an online environmental resource that began April 2008 with a mission to promote awareness, civic engagement and knowledge of environmental issues in order to bridge the gap between those interested in the green movement and those already established in it. It engages the green community in dialogue, resource and information sharing and facilitates opportunities for capacity building and participation within the community.
The site provides exclusive content on environmental issues in the form of academic-based articles, interviews with green professionals and institutions, blog posts, and a host of news, videos and case studies. The most important part of taking action is by defeating inaction—let’s share our resources and keep this important dialogue alive!
How do You Get Involved?
The first step is, of course, visiting the site and reading the About page! That means you’re curious about who we are and what we’re up to in the green community. We appreciate your visit and hope you return for more!
Every content release offers the chance for you to add your voice to the green discussion. At the end of each article is a comment area. Leave your name, email (for private use only!), website if you have one, and your thoughts and click “Submit Comment”. It’s as easy as that!
Creating a user account on The Green Rocket allows you to leave multiple comments, and leave and return to the site, without needing to fill in your Name, Email and Website info again. Even if you have not created an account you can leave comments freely! Furthermore, signing up with Gravatar’s “global avatar” service, used by many blogs and communities on the web, connects other users in the community with an avatar that represents you.
If you are a writer and wish to contribute a piece to The Green Rocket please contact us with your site link for us to see examples of your work. IF you do not have a site, that’s okay–contact us anyways and we’ll work something out through personal emails. You can read more about the submission process by visiting the Submitting to TGR page [Coming soon!].
Who is Piloting the Rocket?
There are two individuals rocketeering the site at the current time.

Nicole McCallum, Co-Founder of TheGreenRocket.comTwitter: @NikkiJade
Nicole McCallum is an indoor cycling instructor and an Honours Economics and Global Studies student at Wilfrid Laurier University, with a focus in econometrics, environmental and development economics, as well as ecotourism. Nicole is passionate about everything green, as she believes nature’s services can be used more efficiently to generate sustainable development in all areas of the world.
Nicole is also a vegetarian, avid traveler and opportunity-taker with extensive leadership training, as well as a lover of sunshine, miniature things (such as kittens), rain, love, people, animals (especially kittens), fitness, yoga, soccer, and laughter, amongst many other things (including kittens). On a side note, she finds it weird to write in third person.
She lives by the idea that even the smallest of decisions can have a great effect; thus any individual CAN impact the world and a group of committed individuals can certainly change it–as Margaret Mead asserted and history has proven. With this in mind, she strives for the goal of achieving sustainable and equitable development internationally by living as the unreasonable woman, as described by ‘Georgina Bernadette Shaw’ [a.k.a George Bernard Shaw quote for the woman]:
The reasonable woman adapts herself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to herself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable woman.
Nuno Teixeira, Co-Founder of TheGreenRocket.comTwitter: @NunoXEI
Nuno Teixeira is a long-time web addict with a growing interest in green movements and green culture. He is an Honours Fine Arts and English graduate from the University of Waterloo and Web Certificate Program graduate from Conestoga College. He has seven years experience in community development–both personal and professional–and has spent the last three years exploring the potential of the web with creative works in webcomics, video podcasts and new ways to build communities incorporating web media applications. His work can be found on his personal blog NunoXEI.com.
Nuno is a meataterian and loves writing in the third person. Due to persistent health issues involving food allergies to things like pork and milk, along with a strict vegetarian partner, Nuno has opened up his mind to alternative food sources. He now considers himself half-vegetarian and actually desires his weekly Greek salad WITHOUT chicken every Friday for lunch. Rice milk has come to the rescue for early morning breakfast cereal and spinach has found a special place in his heart right next to raw broccoli–both vegetables previously avoided similar to the way vampires reject garlic.
Nuno thinks kittens are cute as well, but has a strong respect for ecology in general. At an early age, before settling into art and writing, Nuno wanted to pursue a career as a Veterinarian or a Paleontologist. After discovering you’d have to cut into live animals for the first option, and discovering that no live animals existed to cut into in the second option, this led him to be quite content drawing or writing about them instead.
