Project Overview

Who we are:

The Green Rocket: KW is a collaborative effort between local government, businesses, organizations and a diverse range of community members.  The public team is comprised of a variety of volunteers, editorial staff and writers from a diverse range of backgrounds. While the project maintains a non-hierarchical structure, the facilitation of these actions and coordination of the various projects under The Green Rocket currently falls under the responsibility of the following executive team:

  • Nicole McCallum, Executive Director
  • Jared Foxworthy,  Business Analyst & Project Manager
  • Jill Kolb, Content Manager
  • Cintia Yescas-Foxworthy, Human Resources Manager

Scope & Mission:

This project is dedicated to fostering community participation and collaboration between parties who are interested in sustainability within their community, and those already established in and focused on supporting this growing movement.   It is also committed to creating a credible online hub that connects community members with local resources to promote engagement, awareness, and collaborative interactions relating to the local sustainability movement.  This connection will be fostered through relevant and inspiring content such as a directory of local sustainable resources, a community events calendar, and a host of free and accessible information, including:

  • Blogs
  • Community News
  • Event listings and reviews
  • Videos
  • Artistic expressions
  • Policy related reviews and documents
  • Interviews with local businesses, organizations or other related groups
  • Academic articles and research
  • Case studies
  • …and anything else contributed by community members such as yourself!

Background:

The Green Rocket was launched in 2008 by KW residents who were inspired after their work with the online media movement and its influence on community interaction in Amsterdam. After finding success in the global online community sustainability movement, the founders narrowed their strategy to explore how this could support their community and sustainability at a local level. With this idea in mind, and with generous financial support from various parties, The Green Rocket: KW local chapter was developed.
