A high tech company in Kitchener has been recognized for its environmental initiatives. Christie Digital has been named one of Canada’s greenest employers and also one of the country’s best employers for new Canadians presented with an award by the editors of Mediacorp Canada Inc., a Toronto based publishing firm.

Green Opinion: Clean Water Should be a Priority

Jinelle Pietreder, a 21-year-old entrepreneur, and a global studies and business student at Wilfrid Laurier University, runs her business, SOUL standing for “Show Our United Love”, with gratuitous socially responsible business ethics and goals. Her business: Making purses out of those candy wrappers, thousands and thousands of them!
It all started because she became a distributor for Xocai chocolate a few years ago. It is a company based in Reno, Nevada, which bills itself as a healthy chocolate company. The bite-sized nuggets come in shiny gold, blue and dark brown wrappers.

Community Renewable Energy Waterloo was at Kitchener City Council last night to drum up support for what their calling an innovative solar project.
The group is asking for $275,000 to help about 12 faith-based buildings like churches, mosques and private schools in and around the city, put up 10% of the initial cost through its Local Environment Action Fund. Those organizations would then be responsible for paying the additional 90%, but they could recoup some of those funds by selling power back to the utility companies.
